Active holidays on the Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca is known for its beautiful beaches and wonderful climate, but it is also a paradise for lovers of active holidays. From water sports to mountain adventures, this region offers plenty of opportunities for an active and adventurous holiday. Below is an overview of the best activities you can do here.

1. Water sports on the coast

With more than 200 kilometres of coastline, the Costa Blanca is an excellent destination for water sports enthusiasts. You can surf, kitesurf and windsurf here, especially at Playa de San Juan and Guardamar del Segura. For those who want to take it a little easier, paddleboarding and kayaking are popular options, for example along the impressive rock formations of the Cova Tallada near Dénia.

2. Diving and snorkelling

The underwater world of the Costa Blanca is beautiful and offers plenty of opportunities for diving or snorkelling for both beginners and advanced divers. Well-known diving locations are the Isla de Tabarca nature reserve and the caves at Cabo de la Nao. Here you can encounter colourful fish, octopuses and even small seahorses.

3. Hiking in the mountains

The Costa Blanca is not only coastal, but also a region with impressive mountain landscapes. One of the most popular hiking routes is climbing the Peñón de Ifach in Calpe, where you have breathtaking views of the coast. The Serra de Bernia and the Vall de Laguar are also beautiful hiking areas with challenging routes and panoramic views.

4. Climbing and via ferrata

For those looking for a bit more adrenaline, the Costa Blanca offers excellent climbing locations. Around Sella and Gandía, you will find plenty of climbing routes, both for beginners and advanced climbers. There are also several via ferrata routes, such as the Via Ferrata del Ponoig, where you can climb spectacular rock formations using steel cables and ladders.

5. Cycling and mountain biking

With a varied landscape of mountains, valleys and coastal roads, the Costa Blanca is a popular destination for cyclists and mountain bikers. Well-known routes include the climb of the Coll de Rates, popular among cyclists, and the challenging mountain bike trails in the Sierra de Aitana. You can also cycle leisurely along the coast, for example between Dénia and Jávea.

6. Paragliding and aerial adventures

For those who want to see the Costa Blanca from a different perspective, paragliding is a great experience. Popular starting points are Santa Pola and the mountains near Alicante, where you glide over the coastline and the Mediterranean Sea. You can also opt for a balloon ride over the region's vineyards and mountain landscapes.

7. Canyoning and caving

Adventure seekers who like a challenge can venture into the canyons of the Costa Blanca. Barranco del Infierno is one of the most famous locations, where you trek through the rugged landscape via natural slides, jumps and descents. There are also several caves to explore, such as the impressive Cova del Rull in Vall d'Ebo.

8. Horse riding through nature

For a quieter but adventurous activity, horse riding is a great way to explore the Costa Blanca's interior. There are several riding stables offering tours through orange groves, vineyards and natural parks. The routes around Guadalest and the Jalon Valley are particularly beautiful.

9. Kayaking and canoeing on the rivers

Apart from the sea, the Costa Blanca also offers some rivers and reservoirs where you can kayak and canoe. The Algar river and the Beniarrés reservoir are ideal places for a quiet trip through nature, where you can often spot birds and other wildlife.

10. Golfing in beautiful countryside

For sporting relaxation, visit one of the many golf courses in the region. The Costa Blanca has some top golf courses, such as La Sella Golf near Dénia and Las Colinas Golf & Country Club near Orihuela Costa. With the mild climate, you can play golf all year round here.
